It’s no surprise that when we think about our adult beverages, rum is always a go to.  From pirates to the Royal Navy, from the United States to Japan and all the places in between, here are the top 10 rum cocktails that will do anything from warm you on a cold Fall night to cool you on a hot Summer day.

Cuba Libre

(4 oz Cola, 1/3 oz Fresh Lime juice, 1 2/3 oz light or dark rum.)

Also known as the Rum & Coke, the Cuba Libre is a classic drink that everyone knows about.  Created on the beautiful tropical Island of Cuba, this delicious and hearty drink is worth its weight in gold.  Accounts say that the Cuba Libre was born in 1900 and is considered to be the second most popular rum cocktail in the world.  With it’s sweet and hearty taste this is a go-to cocktail for rum lovers.


(1 1/2 oz White rum, 1/2 oz simple syrup, 1oz Lime juice.)

The Daquiri is a sweet and sour drink that was also created in Cuba by a man named Jennings Cox, an American engineer.  The Daiquiri was brought to the United States in 1902 by William A. Chanler, a congressman who had purchased the Santiago iron mines that same year.  If you’re looking for that sweet and sour taste this is the perfect cocktail to tickle your taste buds.

Hot Buttered Rum

(2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar, 1 stick of unsalted butter at room temperature, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves, pinch of salt, 3/4 cup spiced rum, 2 cups of boiling water or cider, 4 sticks of cinnamon for garnish)

(1 1/2 oz white rum, 6 leaves of mint, soda water, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 2 teaspoons sugar.)

This drink is the perfect hot summer beach day drink.  Refreshing and tasty the mojito is a tasty weapon in any bars arsenal.  One of the most popular drinks in the world, and of course created in Cuba, a lot of historians say that this drink was born by African slaves working the sugar fields in that time.  For a day out at the beach, this drink cocktail can’t be beaten as the perfect refreshing and delicious drink.

Long Island Ice Tea

(1 oz Gomme Syrup, 1/2 oz gin, 1 oz lemon juice, 1/2 oz triple sec, 1/2 oz vodka, 1/2 oz white rum, 1/2 oz tequila, splash of cola.)

Of course, no rum cocktail list could be without this beautiful rum cocktail.  The Long Island Ice Tea is a powerful and tasty drink guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds with a plethora of different taste all mixed into a delightful cocktail.  Robert Butt claims to have invented this tasty drink in a contest in 1972 but accounts also say that this drink could have been created in the 1920’s in Kingsport, Tennessee.  Despite its name, most variations of the drink have no traces of tea.


(1 part Pineapple juice, 1 part Golden Rum, 1/2 part 151-proof rum, 1 part white rum, 1 part apricot brandy, 1 part lime juice, 1 part dark rum.)

Originally created to help hung-over customers the zombie, with it’s smooth and fruity taste, is a wolf in sheeps clothing.  This drink, with it’s high alcoholic content, gets it’s name from the zombie-like after effects it makes on some of the people that drink it.  Fruity and delicious with a kick it’s certainly worth it.

Blue Hawaii

(Frsh citrus juice, 3/4 ounce Vodka, 1/2 ounce Curacao, 1 ounce Sweet and Sour, 3 ounces Pineapple juice unsweetened, 3/4 ounce Light rum, simple syrup)

Created in 1957 by the legendary Harry Yee on the islands of Hawaii, this sweet cocktail, known for its blue tint, is fantastic for parties.  Used for punch instead of your typical run of the mill, its guaranteed to be a hit with its sweet taste and beautiful color.

Flaming Volcano

(1 oz overproof rum ex:Bacardi 151, 2 oz Almond Flavored Syrup, 1 oz Brandy, 1oz Light Rum, 4 oz Orange juice, 2 oz Lemon Juice unsweetened.

Going out with friends?  Then the Flaming Volcano is the perfect drink for  you and your friends.  A really awesome drink with an amazing showmanship, the high-alcohol liquor is used to ignite the crater in the drink creating a neat volcanic feel to your drink.  Definetely a neat drink to enjoy with friends.

Dark ‘N’ Stormy

(3 1/3 oz Ginger Beer, Couple dashes of bitters, 2 oz Dark Rum)

This drink is claimed to be invented by the Gosling brothers in Bermuda right after world war I.  With a savory robust taste, it’s a go to after a long day of work.  The ginger beer gives a very distinct taste to this drink with it’s spice taste mixed with the spices of the rum and sweet taste as well.

PiNa Colada

(3 oz (3 parts) Pineapple juice, 1 oz (one part) White rum, 1 oz (one part) Coconut cream)

Of couse no list would be complete without the infamous PiNa Colada.  One of the most popular tropical drinks in the world, this tropical drink is sure to put you in the island mindset.  Apparently created in 1954 by two bartenders in Purto Rico, this drink has kept its fanbase for more than 50 years and continues to be one of the most tasty drinks ever created
